National Young Leaders
Conference (NYLC)
The Nation's Capital as Classroom
Filled with motorcades, marbled halls, and vast museums, when the subject is leadership, there's no better classroom than Washington, D.C. and no more valuable program than the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC). Here, during our 6- and 9-day programs, attending scholars view the artifacts and monuments that chronicle our nation's history, and also experience what it means to lead:
- In our Model Congress, students assume the roles of congressional leaders, propose legislation, debate issues and ultimately guide a bill to passage.
- In our national security simulation, scholars take on the roles of President and Cabinet members and respond to an international crisis such as those that might occur with Iran, China, or Somalia.
- Finally, the judicial system will be brought to life as students argue a Supreme Court case.
These exercises and simulations will be further enhanced by visits to exclusive areas of the capital, workshops that highlight the spectrum of leadership issues and personal interactions with the real leaders of our day including Senators and Representatives, congressional staffers, journalists, and academics.
Space in this program is limited and will be filled in the order in which students enroll. Session dates are shown to the left of this page. For more detailed program information, visit our dedicated website at www.cylc.org/nylc today.
"The leadership and social experiences I had will follow me throughout life. It's so comforting to know that there are people in the world who want to inspire others to make an impact. As for me, I am ready to contribute my part to a better society. I can't tell you how much NYLC has helped me with that."
